and appliances that may produce heat or a spark?
Are combustibles not stored in basements, bedrooms, etc.?
Are combustible liquids such as stains or paints that are used within the home properly
stored?
Are rags used for such placed in a metal container with a sealed lid?
Water Heater

Is the clothes dryer vented?
Is the vent attached to the dryer?
Is the area behind the dryer clean?
Recommend that the dryer vent hose, piping, and inside lint trap be cleaned. The unit
needs to be unplugged when cleaning the vent pipe. Has the water heater been
checked by a reputable service company in the last year?
Does the water heater have the guard in place for the pilot light?
Does the exhaust vent piping from the water heater to the vent through the roof of the
house appear to be in good condition?
Is the draft diverter (on the top of the water heater) and the exhaust piping attached
and appear to be in good condition?
Is the gas line to the water heater copper pipe or black iron pipe?
Approved epoxy-coated flex lines and brass lines with flanges, not soldered fittings
are permissible. Rigged pipe is also approved.
Is storage kept a minimum of 36” from the water heater?
Furnace

Has the forced air furnace or boiler unit been checked by a reputable service company
within the last year?
Is the furnace motor clean and free of dust and lint?
Is the furnace filter clean?
Is the furnace filter changed frequently (recommend once a month during cold season)?
Does the vent piping from the top of the furnace to the vent through the roof of the
house appear to be in good condition?
Is the gas line to the furnace copper pipe or black iron pipe?
Approved epoxy-coated flex lines and brass lines with flanges, not soldered fittings
are permissible. Rigged pipe is also approved.
Are covers to the furnace on?
Are covers to the furnace in place?
Is storage kept a minimum of 36” from the furnace?
