Appendix 2:
Definition of a Hazardous Substance (Section 4 – WELB Health and
Safety):
A substance is defined as being hazardous to health as follows:
Any substance that is classified as being Very Toxic, Harmful,
Corrosive or Irritant.
A micro organism which creates a hazard to health.
Dust of any kind, when present in a substantial concentration in
the air.
Any substance which creates a comparable hazard to those
above.
A substance hazardous to health can be in the form of a solid, liquid, gas,
powder, fibre, vapour, fume, aerosol, mist or dust.
Appendix 3:
Guidance for Contractors on Site
We have been recommended by the Health and Safety Inspector WELB
to ask you to refrain from:
Smoking in the building or in the grounds, as we are a non-
smoking school.
Talking to the children (our children are asked no to talk to
strangers)
Moving vehicles when children are at play
Working on or near the playgrounds when the children are at play
Leaving equipment around
Playing music during school hours
If you have any problems, please see the Principal, Vice-Principal or
Buildings Supervisor.
