POSITION SUMMARY

Under minimal supervision and in accordance with standardized protocols, is responsible for providing

telephone advice to the clinic pediatrics client’s age birth to 20 years old. The advice nurse works in

collaboration with other health care team members, consulting and referring as appropriate.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Nursing Process

Answers and returns calls to parents/guardians of pediatric patients regarding health concerns.

Assesses current condition via appropriate questions

Develops and implements short-range interventions

Educates parent regarding implementation of interventions

Identifies those patients needing an urgent appointment and schedules them

Documents finding’s interventions and files in chart

Demonstrates competence in the care of infant, pediatric, and adolescent patients relative to

determining each patient’s age related and other physical, psycho-social and cultural needs and

carrying out patient care activities

Educates patients and families as to preventive care, medical problems, psychological problems, and

use of prescribed treatment and drugs
