In this sample summer school unit, a variety of approaches enable students to develop vocabulary,
to experience Latin roots and prefixes in the context of nature study, and to exercise writing skills.
The study of movement-related phenomena enlarges the vocabulary of students to enhance the
dynamic qualities of their writing. The inherent interest in Venus flytraps and other phenomena of
nature lends itself as a topic which is both absorbing and useful, and can be expanded easily into
individualized personal projects or reading reports.
