A good bassoon embouchure has three qualities:

1. Round lips as in whistling or saying “O”.

2. Tuck in the lips over the teeth.

3. Tight corners anchor the embouchure and allow flexibility where the lips touch the reed.

Make sure students have vented reed cases so their reeds dry out between playing or they



will get mold and mildew.

Be sure the bassoon has swabs to dry out the moisture inside the bore.


