Dear Parents,
The faculty at Daniels enlists your help in challenging your student to read often during the summer months to prevent a deterioration of reading skills
during the weeks that the students are on vacation. Research shows that all students learn “more slowly in the summer but some do worse than slow down;
they actually go into reverse….”(Trelease, Summer Reading brochure, 2010). Please encourage your student to read daily! The titles below are some of the most
popular in the Daniels media center – they are not required, and we encourage the students to read what interests them.
Also, check the Daniels website for links to additional reading lists. As an added incentive this summer we are launching a reading challenge for our
students called Step into Reading. Information about the program can be found on the Daniels Website and on the accompanied flyer. Updates and
announcements about the summer reading program will be placed on the website and phone messages from Dr. Battle.
