Character traits are the qualities in a story character, whether human being or an

animal. You discover a character’s traits through things the character says, does, or

thinks. Sometimes you discover them through things the narrator tells you about the

character. In “Cat on the Go,” James Herriot works very hard to help Oscar when the cat

is brought to him. His actions reveal that he is caring, dedicated and compassionate.
