To Write a Standard Number Between 0 and 1 in Scientific Notation
• Move the decimal point to make the number a decimal between 1 and 10.
• Count how many places you moved the decimal point to the right.
• Write the negative of the number of places the decimal moved as the exponent.
Note: In scientifienotation, if a number is greater than or equal to 10, the expo-
nent of the power of 10 is positive. If a number is greater than or equal to 1 but
less than 10, the exponent of the power of 10 is zero. If a number is between 0 and
1, the exponent of the power of 10 is negative.
To change a number in scientific notation to standard form, multiply.
To Multiply by a Power of 10
