Parallel lines:
- two lines with the same slope but different intercepts
- parallel lines never intersect
When trying to find the equation of a line that is parallel to some other
line, always start with the slopes. If two lines are parallel, their slopes are
the same.
Example 2: Find the slope-intercept form of a line passing through the
5
point ( 2, −4 ) that is parallel to the line =
− 2.

Example 3: Find the slope-intercept form of a line passing through the
point ( −3, 5 ) that is parallel to the line + 3 = 1.
Example 4: Find the slope-intercept form of a line passing through the
point ( −3, 3 ) that is parallel to the -axis
Example 5: Find the slope-intercept form of a line with an -intercept −3

and parallel to the line =
+ 5.
