A Family Newsletter
Greetings, Family!
All living things on Earth depend on each other and on the nonliving
things in their environment. In our next unit, “Terrarium Habitats,”
our science class will be studying how organisms interact with each
other and with their environment. We will explore predator-prey
relationships, food chains, and food webs. Students will also learn
about seed germination and plant growth.
You can make science come alive for your child in and around your
home. Which organisms are plants? Which are animals? You can also
have your child look in magazines or newspapers, and watch the news,
for stories about organisms and how they live and grow.
For the hands-on activities in this module, we are collecting the
items listed below. Can you donate any of these items? If so, we need
to receive your donated materials by _________________.
potting soil
clear glass or plastic
grass plants
containers with lids
food samples (fruits,
sprigs of aquarium plants
bread, crackers, lettuce)
ivy leaf cuttings
plastic cups
large cardboard box
Finally, we could use your help in the classroom. Do you or other
family members have any particular interest or special experience with
this topic? Would you be able to help with the activities? If so, please
fill out the form below and have your student return it to class.
Thank you very much for your help!
