Dear Family,

I would like you to play a subtraction game with your child that involves eating.

For example, you might have 5 apples and your child eats 1 apple so there are

4 apples left. Help your child draw a picture and write a number sentence to

tell what happened. For example, your child could draw a picture of 5 apples,

cross 1 apple out, and write the number sentence 5 - 1 = 4. Please begin with

no more than 10 objects when you are playing this game.

In class I will put the children in pairs, and they will share their pictures and

number sentences.
