A Family Newsletter
Greetings, Family!
The next time your child tracks dirt into your home, consider this:
It is all that remains of giant boulders, worn down over thousands
of years. In our next unit, “Rocks, Soil, and Fossils,” our science class
will be studying the materials that make up Earth’s surface. We will
explore what rocks are made of and learn how soil forms. We will
grow seeds in different types of soil and observe one of soil’s most
visible inhabitants, the earthworm. Students will also examine fossils.
You can make science come alive for your child in and around your
home. What types of rocks can be found outside your home? What is
the soil like? What kinds of plants grow there?
