Recycling Checklist
Stage 1 -
Planning
1. Carry out a study (audit) of your current waste creation and disposal processes to establish baseline
data. Record it to analyse and compare future data.
2. Highlight the issues, set goals and targets.
3. Develop an action plan and determine how and when you will achieve set goals.
4. Ensure you have incorporated in your Action Plan:
§ An Education Plan
§ A Communication Strategy
Forward these to Education Queensland to nadeia.romanowski@qed.qld.gov.au.
Stage 2 -
Implementation
Follow the steps you have outlined in your action plan by:
§ Implementing the strategies you have listed i.e. audits, surveys, monitors etc
§ Incorporating activities and learning into the curriculum
§ Market the idea of recycling effectively in all areas of the school
§ Promote recycling consistently and regularly to motivate and reinforce behaviour.
Review and Monitor
Stage 3 -
. Review your achievements to date, incorporating any feedback and suggestions received during the im-
1
plementation process.
2. Don’t lose sight of your goals. Decide what worked and what didn’t and develop a method to fix it!
3. Report back to Education Queensland using the Yearly Review Summary template, sharing your suc-
cess and ideas! A good report would document the following:
§ Initiatives you have undertaken
§ Measurable results of those initiatives (reduction in collections, number of bins)
§ Cost savings achieved
§ How you incorporated recycling into the curriculum, learning outcomes used
§ Indirect benefits eg. decrease in littering, increase in student pride/involvement
§ Flow on effects to community
