The YMCA of Metropolitan Los Angeles exists to build strong kids, strong families and strong
communities by promoting healthy lifestyle habits, teaching character and ethics, and
involving people from diverse backgrounds, cultures and faith traditions in an inclusive
community of members.
To be effective in promoting and teaching these organizational values, YMCA staffs (paid or
volunteer) must represent credible personal examples of the YMCA’s aims. Regardless of the
specific position – full-time or part-time, paid or volunteer, exempt or non-exempt -- the
YMCA is seeking individuals from diverse backgrounds who live healthy lives, conduct their
personal affairs in the concern with the tenets of ethical behavior and welcome all they meet
with an attitude of loving concern and acceptance.
YMCA members, especially the children, should be able to observe any member of the YMCA
staff and see complete agreement between the YMCA’s message and that person’s habits
and daily conduct.
