The applicant hereby certifies that the information provided herein is true and correct and he or
she understands that the approval of such permit is solely at the discretion of the Minister. The
Work Permit Exemption is not a right of anyone married to a BVIslander or of any other
circumstance, it is a privilege. The Work Permit Exemption does not grant a person status in the
BVI, it only exempts a person from the Work Permit Fees. If the applicant is not granted an
exemption, he or she must apply for a Work Permit at the Labour Department. The Work Permit
Exemption does not in any way make void the provisions in the Labour Code, regarding preference
being given to Belongers of the Territory, but once the provisions of the Code are met, it would no
longer be necessary for him or her to obtain a Work permit for the period of exemption granted.
