If so, we’d like to hear about your experience.

Your story will help us spread the word about New Jersey’s Family Leave Insurance Program, why it

is good for employers and employees in New Jersey, and how it helps workers manage the demands

of work and family. Your story will also help inform other organizations that are looking to create a

similar program.

Your story will become part of the New Jersey Time to Care coalition Story Bank to be shared with

policy makers, advocates, and the media. Your story CAN create change!

What is the New Jersey Time to Care Coalition Story Bank?

The New Jersey Time to Care Coalition Story Bank is a collection of audio story portraits of workers and

employers throughout NJ. We are launching the Story Bank with stories about Family Leave Insurance. These

stories will also be shared with the Family Values at Work Consortium, and may be used on their web site to

inform other state and national organizations that are working on family leave issues.

We hope that these audio portraits will show:



how New Jersey’s Family Leave Insurance program (FLI) has helped workers and their families; and



how New Jersey’s FLI program can be expanded to cover those who need to take time to care for a

family member but because of current program limitations are unable to receive FLI benefits.

What stories are we looking for?

We are looking for stories from New Jersey workers and their families that provide personal experiences

accessing NJ Family Leave Insurance benefits. We are especially interested in hearing from workers who used

New Jersey’s Family Leave Insurance Program benefits while they were out of work, caring for a sick family

member or bonding with a new child. We are also interested in hearing from those who had care giving

responsibilities, but were not able to use NJ FLI program.

Specifically, we are looking for stories that get at the answers to these questions:

How did New Jersey’s Family Leave Insurance program help you and your family?

Tell us about what happened when you were not able to receive paid family leave. What happened to

you and your family? How did you ultimately deal with the situation?

If your employer provides affordable family leave, tell us how that makes you feel.

Share an idea of how workplaces might provide affordable family leave.
