Laughs and Memories Scholarship

Purpose: To award a financial scholarship annually to Boys & Girls Club members at the Jack Minges Unit in an effort to

assist them with advancing their educational interests beyond high school.

Process: Applicants must submit all documents listed in the General Requirements section by March 1, 2017

(postmarked date). Late or incomplete applications will not be accepted – no exceptions. Scholarships will be awarded

in late June to area youth that are planning to attend a post-secondary learning institution. The Scholarship Selection

committee will award one scholarship. Funds will be distributed to selected candidate upon receipt of a copy of an

acceptance letter and proof of registration from the attending post-secondary institution.

Eligibility:

1. Applicant must be a current Boys & Girls Club member at the Jack Minges Unit for a minimum of two (2) years.

2. Applicant must be a high school junior or senior.

3. Applicant must be a racial minority (i.e. African American, Hispanic, Native American, etc.).

4. Applicant must have at least a 2.5 cumulative GPA.

General Requirements:

1. All applicants must submit a completed scholarship application.

2. All applicants must submit an official high school transcript.

3. All applicants must show proof of a minimum of 50 hours of volunteer service during application year. Hours

should be documented on organization’s letterhead and signed by supervisor or director.

4. All applicants must submit three (3) letters of recommendation. One must be from a school faculty

member/administrator, and one must be from a leader or administrator of Boys & Girls Clubs.

5. All applicants must submit an essay indicating what Boys & Girls Clubs means to them, the memories it has

created, and how this scholarship is needed to assist with their educational goals.
