Capítulo 3B: Inclass project: Giving driving directions
español 2
Imagine that a new student has arrived to Spain Park from a Spanishspeaking country. You
are trying to tell him/her about Birmingham and how to get from school to a certain point in the
city.
Task: F or this project, you will complete three things. First, you will give directions in Spanish
from Spain Park High School to another location in town. Second, you will draw a map from
school to the destination location. Finally, you will record yourself giving the directions.
Why are you completing this project ? G iving directions is an essential task you will have to
complete from time to time in any language. If you are sightseeing in a Spanishspeaking
country, you will need to ask for directions to a certain point of interest. In your own
hometown, you might be asked directions by visitors from other places.
Steps to take:
1. Choose a destination location somewhere in Birmingham. You need to know exactly
how to get to that location from school. If you are unsure of the directions to get there,
choose a different destination.
2. Write detailed directions in order, starting at Spain Park and ending at the destination.
a. If you need driving directions, you can use Google Maps, Mapquest, etc.
b. Use vocabulary terms from Chapter 3B… you must use at least 5 different
words.
c. Use affirmative tú commands. You must use at least 3 different verbs total.
d. Street names such as Jaguar Drive do not translate into Spanish. It is okay to
write the street names in English.
3. Draw a map from school to your destination. Your map should include all streets,
highways, etc. Label each street name and draw and label significant landmarks
along the way.
4. Color and illustrate your map. I am not grading your map for artistic ability. Rather, I
am grading for following instructions and including all the required information.
5. Finally, record yourself giving the directions. Call my school voicemail at
2052797707. First state your name and class period, and then read your directions.
Please practice saying your directions before you call and leave your message.
Please paperclip (don’t staple) your directions to your map and turn it into the substitute.
You have all class period on Wed/Thurs (3/263/27) and Friday (3/28) to work on this project.
The project must be turned in to the substitute by the end of the school day on Friday. Your
voicemail is also due by the end of the school day. You MAY use your phone in class to
record your directions!
