VOCABULARY
Improving your knowledge of English vocabulary is a very important part of 11+ preparation.
Follow these five steps to help you learn the meaning of new words:
(1) Make a note of any word that is ‘new’ to you.
(2) Look up its meaning in a dictionary and a Thesaurus.
(3) Record the meaning below.
(4) Record some synonyms and, where relevant, antonyms of the word.
(5) Try to learn the meaning of each of the words so that if they occur on a test paper you will
recognise them and know their meaning. Tick them off once you have learnt them.
