INSTRUCTIONS
1. If the certificate of registration (or export pedigree) indicates the ownership of a resident of Canada other than the resident of Canada
who imported the dog, then the foreign certificate will not be accepted and the application denied.
2. If an imported dog was part of a single shipment which included two or more dogs of the same sex and breed, then the dogs included
in the shipment are not eligible for registration by the CKC unless:
a) Before each dog was exported to Canada, it was tattoo marked in accordance with the information provided below.
b) The record of such tattoo markings appears on the certificate of registration (or export pedigree) issued by a recognized
Kennel Club or Stud Book in the country from which the dogs were exported to Canada, or
c)
Before each dog was exported to Canada it was uniquely identified by a microchip implanted in the withers, and the
bar coded label or the transponder number must appear in the space provided on the application.
d) Each dog in the shipment was accompanied by its certificate of registration or export certificate.
3. If an imported dog expires, before it is identified with tattoo letters or a microchip for registration purposes, the dog and any of its
Canadian born progeny shall not be eligible for registration by the CKC.
4. Where an imported dog is accompanied by a certificate of registration issued by the National Greyhound Association, International
Foxhunters Stud Book or Masters of Foxhunters Association, the importer should write the CKC for advise regarding CKC regulations
governing eligibility for Canadian registration.
5. The importer applying for Canadian registration is required to provide evidence (such as air way bills or customs inspection slips)
certifying the date of importation to Canada and to whom the dog was consigned. If such evidence is legitimately unobtainable, the
importer may report the transit circumstance by attaching a letter of explanation to this application.
6. All signatures to be written in ink and not printed. If all parties have an Electronic Registration Agreement on file with the CKC, this
form can be transmitted electronically.
7. A Dog that is registered in a foreign club on a non-breeding agreement is ineligible for registration with The Canadian Kennel
Club.
INFORMATION ON IDENTIFICATION
In order to be eligible for registration in the records of the CKC, a dog must be identified by one of two methods set forth in
Section 26 of the Club’s By-laws so that the certificate of registration issued for the dog makes it possible to distinguish it
from any other dog of the same breed. The owner of the dog may choose which of these two methods is to be used and is
responsible for ensuring that the dog is properly identified.
The tattoo or microchip identification of a dog imported to Canada is the sole responsibility of the importer. Failure to
address this responsibility will provide cause to deny Canadian registration of the imported dog, and any of its Canadian born
progeny.
Methods of Identification
1.
Microchip Transponder Implants
A dog owned by a resident of the United States may possess a microchip that meets the Canadian Standard. In such
circumstances, the chip will be accepted if it meets the following criteria:
The chip is implanted in the appropriate location, which is under the skin between the shoulder blades.
The chip contains a maximum of twenty (20) characters.
2.
Tattoos
Any person wishing to use this method must apply to the CKC on an official application form, for the allotment of “Tattoo
Series” for his exclusive use.
Where a dog is owned by a resident of the United States, the dog must be identified with the tattoo letter series allotted by
the CKC along with a serial numeral. Example: If the owner is allotted the letters ABC, such letters are tattooed on the
dog, plus the numeral “1” for the first dog tattooed, or the serial numeral “2” for the second dog, and so on.
Note: A year letter is not required on a Foreign Dog.
Any tattoo mark placed on the dog for registration purposes must be recorded on the application for registration in the
spaces provided for the purpose and the person who physically places the tattoo mark on the dog must sign the section.
The tattoo marks can be placed in the right or left ear, on the right or left flanks or on the belly or lips. If on the ears, care
should be taken to avoid piercing the cartilaginous ridges also as to affect ear carriage.
