The Hope for Kids with Diabetes specialty car tag has been officially approved by the State of Alabama.
1,000 pre-commitments must be made in order for the tag to go into mass production. The sooner we receive
1,000 commitments, the sooner we will have them on our vehicles and begin generating much needed funds
to help provide hope for kids with diabetes.
The Hope for Kids with Diabetes specialty car tag is regularly $50.00 with $41.25 from every purchase of
the car tag directly benefitting Pediatric Endocrinology at Children’s of Alabama. Funds from the specialty
license tag program will be dedicated to pediatric diabetes patient care, physician training and research to
benefit the thousands of young Alabamians growing up with this disease. Thanks to generous donors,
the first 1,000 pre-commitments are free.
Children’s is currently treating approximately 900 - 975 patients per month.
Our clinic’s patient population is approximately 9,000. Of those patients, 2,600 are diabetic. This
makes us one of, if not the, largest diabetes centers in the United States.
Children’s Diabetes Education Program is accredited by the American Diabetes Association. This is a
recognition we have proudly achieved for more than 15 years.
More than 900 of our patients use portable continuous insulin pumps. Our Insulin Pump Educators are
certified in training for the Medtronic, Animas and Omnipod pumps.
Our clinic is in the process of changing over from paper charts to electronic charts. We hope that this
will improve patient throughput and efficiency. There is also a health system-wide upgrade to the
scheduling system.
